The climate in Korea is temperate with four very distinct seasons. Summers are very hot and humid, while in winter temperatures plummet to below freezing. Autumn and spring are the most comfortable seasons to visit South Korea. Most of the rain falls in summer during a monsoon season known as 'jangma'.


Korean is the official language of both North and South Korea, and (along with Mandarin) of Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture in Manchuria area of China. Worldwide, there are up to 80 million speakers of the Korean language.


The official currency of South Korea is the won. The won historically had been broken down into 100 jeon, but typically the smallest amount that crosses hands presently is 100 won. The currency is pegged against the U.S. dollar.




The South Korea population is around 49 million. This makes the population density 480 per square kilometer. Seoul, the national capital, is one of the most populated cities in the world with a population of well over 10 million.

Capital City:

Located on the Han River, Seoul, Korea's capital city has grown into a teeming metropolis with a population of more than 11 million representing over 24 percent of the entire county's population.
